  • Helping set special nets, check on nets every 3 hours, measure/weight/tag sea turtles.
  • Assisting with beach-based sea turtle release.

Sharks & Rays

  • Surface monitoring / snorkeling.
  • Underwater monitoring / SCUBA diving.
  • Visiting local fishermen villages and assist with measuring/weighting.
  • Assisting with whaleshark measurement and cataloging.

Fishing

  • Visit 5+ different local fishermen villages and assist with measuring/weighting and sampling.
  • Visit commercial fisheries and assist with surface and underwater monitoring.
  • Visit to local tide pools to study invertebrates and crustaceous.
  • Fish dissection.
  • Study various locally used fishing methods.

Marine Mammals

  • Assisting with sea lion disentanglement.
  • Participating in whale shark census.

Sea Birds/Bird Watching

  • Visiting various habitats of local sea birds by boat, ship, kayak and on foot throughout different islands for guaranteed high quality photography.

In between scientific activities, passengers get to participate in guided recreational activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, boat rides and coastal hikes.

  • 15:30 | Walk across the island ́s isthmus through the salt pans (introductory talk about salt extraction in the region); if at low tide, exploring the tide pools while learning about the intertidal zone; if high tide, learning about the cactus family; hike along the ridge trek.

  • 18:30 | Anchoring at El Mangle (NW end of San Jose Island) for the night.

Day 4

  • 08:00 | Hike across San Jose Island (from the NW end to the NE end) finishing at the village of Palmasola. (Flora and geology talks along the hike.)
  • 10:00 | Return to the ship (which will be awaiting for us on the other side) for breakfast.
  • 11:00 | Departure Southbound towards Punta Colorada (East side of San Jose Island).
  • 12:30 | Snorkeling session 4.
  • 13:30 | Return to the ship for lunch.
  • 14:30 | Coastal walk along Punta Colorada fossil walls.
  • 15:30 | Free swim.
  • 16:00 | Departure from Punta Colorada Southbound and around San Jose Island Southern end, around San Francisco Island towards Los Islotes while whale watching.
  • 19:00 | Anchoring for the night in Ensenada Grande (Isla La Partida).

  • 11:30 | Anchoring off El Mogote (The Antler) outer beach for whale shark swimming.
  • 11:40 | Introductory talk about whale sharks, “whale shark etiquette” and safety briefing.
  • 12:00 | Snorkeling session 6 -swimming with whale sharks from the skiffs (panga boats).
  • 15:00 | Return to the ship for lunch and departure towards La Paz Cove.
  • 16:00 | Anchoring in front of La Paz City Waterfront, walks along the waterfront (tour, souvenir shopping, ice cream), and return to the ship.
